Sunderland to Saigon
‘Sunderland to Saigon’ is a unique project to record a memorable journey from Monkwearmouth Station Museum in Sunderland, England to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh) in Vietnam. The North East of England is generally accepted to be the birthplace of the railways and Saigon represents the furthest city that can be reached from there by train.
A member of Museum staff will be making this amazing trip along with a film-maker and assistant from Centre Screen Productions in Manchester, England. One of the UK’s leading film, video and multimedia production companies, Centre Screen will be responsible for recording the team’s experiences during the 40 day journey.
The resulting film footage, photographs and objects collected will be on show at Monkwearmouth Station Museum when it opens in June 2007.
The Sunderland to Saigon project has received funding from Culture10 and the North East Regional Museums Hub.
